Description: The IfN is taking part in the BERTA project, where GPS positioning performance is addressed. Among
other impairments like thermal noise and interference, multipath propagation has an important impact
on the precision of GPS localisation. GPS receivers calculate their position using at least 3
satellites. In the ideal case, the signal from each satellite propagates directly from the satellite
to the receivers. However, in reality each satellite signal propagates through different paths. This
leads to an error in the GPS positioning. Thus, in order to be able to assess the influence of multipath
propagation, a GPS receiver should be tested under a simulation environment where multipath propagation
is considered. This thesis will consist of:

1. Literature study about the topic.
2. Implementation of different models that describe the influence of multipath propagation on the
accuracy of GPS receivers.
3. Implementation of a simulation environment for the study of multipath propagation and receiving
of GPS signals based on an existing MATLAB GPS receiver.
4. Simulation with different channel impulse responses.
5. Assessment of the simulation results.


Requirements:
- Knowledge of communication system fundamentals (ideally by the attendance to the lectures held
at the IfN).
- Knowledge of MATLAB or C/C++ programming languages.
