IfN Speech Technology in High-End System Phone

In the course of a publicly funded ZIM project the Institute for Communication Technology has developed an innovative speech technology for a modern standard SIP/IP-based system phone. It is distributed by the company Auerswald GmbH in Cremlingen under the brand Comfortel 3500 since May 2012.

While most of today´s phones support speech communication only within a bandwidth from 300...3400 Hz, ISDN and voice over IP phones principally could support so-called wideband speech in the range from 50...7000 Hz. The additional low frequencies increase speech quality, while the additional high frequencies also increase intelligibility (e.g., for proper names, during spelling, ...). Also the increasing amount of foreign-language speech communication in a globalized world will be supported with clearly improved clarity of communication. The real-time audio component developed at the Institute for Communications Technology comprises a high-quality and efficient hands-free capability with wideband acoustic echo cancellation.
