The term Tower Overlay over LTE-Advanced+ describes a research project started in 2011. It aims at relieving cellular networks from popular content (e.g. videos) and reducing the overall operational costs by utilizing broadcast transmissions. This is done by the use of a "classical" broadcast infrastructure - high transmission towers with a high transmission power (HTHP). The transmitted broadcast carrier can be seen as an overlay to the mobile cellular network. [More]
