General Excursion:

In the annual excursion week, the IfN goes on a field trip to alternating regions of Germany. The destinations are various companies providing an insight into their activities. The convivial evenings offer the possibility for students to talk with the lecturers and assistants in a relaxed atmosphere.

Excursion with Students in May 2015

This year's excursion led us to the Southern Germany. At first, we visited DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung in Langen (Frankfurt) where we learned about the tasks of air traffic control and DFS’ innovations as well as their high frequency technology labs. At Bayerischer Rundfunk in Munich we were able to see television studios, broadcasting vans, control rooms and BR’s effort to merge the production of content for TV, Radio and the internet. A visit to Rohde & Schwarz was next on the agenda. There, we learned about different products and the development process of those .At last, we went to Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) in Erlangen. After a general presentation of Fraunhofer and the IIS, we were shown several impressive demos concerning research topics in the areas of broadcast and mobile networks. Prof. Reimers completed the program guiding us to the points of interest in Munich. We would like to thank the host companies for providing us an insight into their working environment.

The field trip in 2012 also took us to Southern Germany. We visited Jenoptik and Carl Zeiss in Jena, Rohde & Schwarz and Bayerischen Rundfunk in München as well as Siemens Medical in Erlangen. The Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institut was visited on our trip in 2013. In 2014, we went to the Rhine Main area where we visited the ZDF in Mainz as well as Merck and Deutsche Telekom in Darmstadt.
